The School of Community Health Officers (C.H.O.) Training Programme is located in a well conducive area within the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile-Ife, just directly behind the School of Nursing building. The school trains students running Higher Diploma in Community Health. (Community Health Officers) for duration of two years.

STUDENTS




The Students are Seventy (70) in all i.e. 35 students for each set. Admission of these students was done on Federal Character Principles and merit with representative from various states of the country. They are also senior staff of middle level health care providers in their respective Local Government in the Primary Health Care Delivery System across the Country.




ACTIVITIES OF THE SCHOOL:



• Impact knowledge to students to ensure the provision of integrated Primary Health Care and Services.
• Periodically review the topics of health education talks with a view to ensuring accuracy of information, relevance of topics and appreciateness of method and language.
• Indexing of students with the Community Health Practitioners’ Registration Board, (CHPRBN), Abuja.
• Registration and Coordination of students for CHPRBN National/Final examination.
• Training and supervision of student’s practical posting at various Health facilities i.e.
1. Urban Comprehansive Health Centre, Eleyele, Ile-Ife
2. Comprehensive Health Centre Aderemi Road, Ile-Ife,
3. Comprehensive Health Centre, Enuwa, Ile-Ife
4. Rural Comprehensive Health Centre, Imesi-Ile and
5. Ife Hospital Units, comprising of the following units: Adult Casualty (Accidents and Emergency Unit), Children Emergency Ward, Family Planning Clinic, Dental Hospital, Haematology Laboratory, Chemical Pathology Laboratory, Microbiology Laboratory, Virology Clinic, Communicable/STI Clinic, Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic, Opthalmology Clinic and Mental Health Ward.
• Conducting with the Management, entrance examination for new-intakes into Community Health Officers’ Training Programme.
• Performing any assigned responsibilities by the Management.



HOSTEL




The School now have two Hostels, the HD I hostel is located in the residence quarters of Urban Comprehensive Health Centre, Eleyele, Ile-Ife. The Students occupy the flats of two-bedrooms each with their conveniences.

The HD II Students have got there own hostel which is located in the hospital premises i.e. the VAMED building along staff quarters has been converted to students’ hostel.
