L-R: WGH Nursing Unit Head, Mrs. E. A. Olamijuwon; Obanla of Ijesaland, High Chief Mathew Oyekanmi Ogedengbe; Arojo of Irojo, Oba Olusegun Akeju; Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole and the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Victor Adetiloye
The Honourable Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, over the weekend officially unveiled the newly revamped Paediatric Outpatient building at the Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa as part of the numerous legacy projects being earmarked for the Hospital by the Federal Government.
Prof. Adewole during the commissioning stated that the building project was funded through the Saving One Million Lives (SOML) initiative, which is a broad-based investment program with six distinct health pillars; immunization, malaria control, nutrition, prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV, delivery of essential medicines to address common childhood illnesses, and strengthening of maternal, newborn and child health delivery platforms. SOML has the potential to dramatically improve maternal and child health in the country, and has helped raise about N7 Billion Naira for healthcare delivery in Osun State alone.
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Victor Adetiloye during his remark appreciated the Federal Government through the Ministry of Health on the unwavering supports showered on the hospital in recent time. The CMD further hinted that the Federal Government also appropriated the construction of a female and male surgical ward, which would soon be completed.
More so, the Federal Executive Council has also approved the construction of a theater complex, which construction will commence in few weeks’ time. As part of what to expect at the Wesley Guild Hospital in a short period is the installation of modern incinerator already delivered to the hospital. Again, Coca-Cola Nigeria Limited will be delivering sets of equipment to the hospital. To this end, the CMD appreciated the Hon. Minister of Health for facilitating these projects, which the hospital had struggled to accomplish over the years.

Ijesa royal fathers were not left out of the fiesta of donations as the CMD noted that the Awikun of Iwikun Ijesa, Oba Rufus Adedoja donated sixty (60) acres of land; Ado oko of Ido oko Ijesa, Oba Michael Babatunde Adedeji donated another sixty (60) acres of land; Obanla of Ijesaland, High Chief Mathew Oyekanmi Ogedengbe also donated twenty (20) acres of land, and Olomu of Ijaaregbe, Oba Edward Adebayo donated 2 acres of land to the Hospital.
Another Ijesa indigene, who wishes to be anonymous has also donated a new gate to the Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa. It would be recalled that WGH has been recipient to many outstanding donations in recent time, among which are the ultra-modern medical ward donated by the Sarumi Family and the Obstetric Fistula Centre donated by Dame Olayinka Obaleye’s family. This is therefore a challenge to other well-meaning citizens of the country to support the health development of their communities.
